Martin Viessmann was born in 1953 or 1954 in Allendorf, Germany. He is the grandson of Johann Viessmann, who founded the Viessmann Group in 1917. His family has a long history in the heating systems industry.

Viessmann did not follow the traditional path of his predecessors, opting for a degree in business administration from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He joined the Viessmann Group, eventually becoming the CEO. Under his leadership, the company expanded internationally and diversified into sustainable energy solutions.
