Early Life and Education
Li Ge was born in Beijing, China, in January 1967. Details about his early life and family are limited, but he graduated from the Affiliated High School of Peking University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Peking University in July 1989. He then pursued his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Columbia University in New York, graduating in 1994. His mentors at Columbia included W. Clark Still and Koji Nakanishi.
Rise to Success
Li Ge's professional journey began with a role at Pharmacopeia, Inc., where he served as a founding scientist. In 2000, inspired by a business trip to China, Li Ge co-founded WuXi AppTec in Shanghai with his wife, Ning Zhao. The company started as a contract research organization (CRO) providing services to global pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Under his leadership, WuXi AppTec expanded significantly, going public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2007, delisting in 2015, and relisting on the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges in 2018.
