Early Life
Jane Goldman was born in 1955 to a Jewish family in New York City. Her father, Sol Goldman, was a significant real estate investor who amassed a large portfolio of properties. Goldman attended the Masters School, the American School in Switzerland, and graduated from Manhattanville College. She joined the family real estate business around 1977, gaining experience in residential leasing before working alongside her father.
Rise to Success
After her father's death, Goldman, along with her siblings, inherited a significant portion of the family's real estate empire. She serves as the co-chair of Solil Management, the family's property holding company, which manages a vast portfolio of properties in New York City. Under her leadership, Solil has maintained a conservative, low-debt strategy, overseeing a portfolio of over 400 properties, including high-profile assets.
Key Business Strategies
Goldman has emphasized long-term asset retention and value preservation, focusing on extended ground leases. This strategy has helped sustain the portfolio's growth despite market fluctuations. The family’s focus is on maintaining a low-profile, but influential presence in New York City's real estate landscape.
Philanthropy
Jane Goldman is actively involved in philanthropy, primarily through the Sol Goldman Charitable Trust, which supports various causes including education, health, Jewish causes, and human services. A cornerstone of her giving is the establishment of the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center at Johns Hopkins University, which was funded following her mother's death from pancreatic cancer in 2002. She has also established the Goldman Family Fund at Yale Law School.
