Early Life
Issad Rebrab was born in 1944 in the village of Taguemount-Azouz in the Tizi Ouzou region of Algeria. Growing up during the Algerian War of Independence, Rebrab's family had humble beginnings. He pursued higher education in France, studying accounting, before returning to Algeria to teach and later establish his own accounting firm in 1968.
Rise to Success
Rebrab's entrepreneurial journey began in 1971 when he invested in a metallurgical construction company, Sotecom. He created Profilor in 1975, solidifying his presence in the steel industry. In 1988, he founded Metal Sider, which grew into a major concrete manufacturer. In 1998, he returned to Algeria and founded Cevital. Cevital became the largest private company in Algeria, with interests in food processing, retail, industry, and services.
Key Business Strategies
Rebrab's key strategies involved diversification and strategic acquisitions. He expanded Cevital's operations beyond Algeria, acquiring companies in Europe, including Groupe Brandt (France) and Alas Iberia (Spain). Rebrab has also focused on building a vertically integrated business model, especially in the food industry, including sugar refining, oil production, and margarine manufacturing.
