His father, Erich, inherited the company in 1942, and along with his brother Helmut, transformed Benteler International into a global engineering giant. Benteler became chairman in 1991 and was instrumental in expanding the company's global footprint. Under his leadership, Benteler International grew, making significant contributions to the automotive industry, steel and tube production, and engineering. A key milestone was the restructuring of the company into a holding company with four distinct business areas in 1999. He stepped down from his role as chairman in 2017 and moved to the supervisory board.
