Garrett Camp was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on October 4, 1978. His father was an economist, and his mother was an artist. Camp graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 2001 and later earned a master's degree in software engineering with a focus on collaborative systems, evolutionary algorithms, and information retrieval.
Rise to Success
Camp co-founded StumbleUpon in 2002, a web discovery platform. The platform was acquired by eBay in 2007 for $75 million and later reacquired by Camp in 2015, transitioning to Mix in 2018. In 2009, Camp co-founded Uber (originally UberCab) with Travis Kalanick, which transformed the transportation industry. Uber quickly expanded across the United States and internationally. Camp later founded Expa, a startup studio.
