Early Life
Robert Ralph Parsons was born on November 27, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland. He experienced a difficult childhood marked by financial struggles due to his parents' gambling habits. Parsons struggled in school, nearly failing to graduate high school. Seeking a change, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War as a rifleman in the Delta Company of the 1st Battalion, 26th Marines. He was wounded in action and received the Combat Action Ribbon, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the Purple Heart.
Rise to Success
After returning from the war, Parsons used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Baltimore, graduating magna cum laude with an accounting degree in 1975. He began his career in the IT and software sales industry. In 1984, Parsons founded Parsons Technology, a software company that developed the MoneyCounts personal finance program. He sold Parsons Technology to Intuit in 1994 for $64 million. In 1997, he launched Jomax Technologies, which later became GoDaddy. Under Parsons's leadership, GoDaddy grew rapidly, becoming the world's largest domain name registrar. In 2011, Parsons sold a majority stake in GoDaddy to a private equity consortium for approximately $2.3 billion and stepped down as CEO. He stepped down from the board in 2018.

Parsons is known for his innovative marketing strategies, including provocative Super Bowl commercials that helped GoDaddy gain significant market share. He also demonstrated a keen ability to identify market opportunities, such as the demand for domain registration and web hosting services. Parsons's entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take risks have been central to his success. After selling a major stake in GoDaddy, he founded YAM Worldwide, Inc. which includes ventures in power sports, golf (PXG), real estate, and marketing.
Philanthropy
Bob and his wife, Renee, founded The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation in 2012. The foundation focuses on supporting various causes, including homelessness, medical care, education, and veterans. They pledged to give over half of their net worth away during their lifetimes as part of The Giving Pledge. The foundation has contributed significantly to the Phoenix, Arizona, area.
