Axel Stawski was born in West Germany in 1950 to Jewish parents, Moniek and Zosia, who were Holocaust survivors. His father was a real estate developer in West Germany before the family emigrated to the US in 1971. Axel is the second of five children. Stawski earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Birmingham in England and a PhD in International Law from New York University School of Law.
