Early Life
Anne Dinning was born in Seattle and showed an early aptitude for academics. She earned a Bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Washington in 1984. After completing her undergraduate studies, she moved to New York City, where she pursued a Ph.D. in computer science from New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
Rise to Success
Dinning's career took off in 1990 when she joined D.E. Shaw, one of the most successful quantitative hedge fund firms. Starting as a junior researcher, she quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a managing director responsible for the firm's worldwide asset management activities. She was instrumental in the firm's evolution, from its early days with about 20 employees operating in a small space to a global investment and technology development firm with over 2,000 employees and over $60 billion in investment capital. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee that leads the firm.
