Alexander Caedmon Karp was born in New York City on October 2, 1967, and raised in Philadelphia. He attended Central High School and later pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Haverford College in 1989, a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School in 1992, and a Ph.D. in neoclassical social theory from Goethe University Frankfurt in 2002. At Stanford, he met Peter Thiel, with whom he later co-founded Palantir.
