Early Life and Education
Nobutada Saji was born on November 25, 1945, in Japan. He is the grandson of Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, a renowned Japanese beverage company. Saji graduated from Koyo Gakuin High School and earned a Bachelor of Economics degree from Keio University. He furthered his education by obtaining an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.
Rise to Success
Saji joined Suntory in 1974 and rose through the ranks, becoming the President of Suntory in 2001. Under his leadership, Suntory experienced significant growth and expanded its global presence. A key strategic move was the 2014 acquisition of Beam Inc., the parent company of Jim Beam and Maker's Mark bourbon, for $16 billion, which significantly boosted Suntory's global standing. He stepped down as president in 2014 and currently serves as the chairman.
