Early Life
Liu Xiucai was born in Chuzhou, Anhui Province in 1957. In 1977, at the age of 20, he was admitted to China University of Science and Technology to study chemistry. He earned a doctoral degree in biochemistry in the United States and held researcher positions from 1991 to 1994. Details regarding his early life and upbringing are not widely publicized.
Rise to Success
Inspired by a seminar that predicted the need for bio-based chemicals, Liu started his own business in China. He founded Cathay Biotech Inc. in Zhongguancun in 1997.
