Early Life
Larry Robbins was born on October 22, 1969, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Growing up in a middle-class Jewish family, Robbins displayed early academic excellence. He graduated with honors from the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. There, he earned a B.S. in economics with concentrations in accounting, finance, and marketing, as well as a B.S. in engineering with a major in systems engineering. Robbins was also the captain of the University of Pennsylvania hockey team.
Rise to Success
Robbins began his career at Gleacher & Company, a mergers and acquisitions advisory boutique in New York. He then joined Leon Cooperman at Omega Advisors, where he spent six years as an analyst and partner. In 2000, Robbins founded Glenview Capital Management. The firm's name is inspired by the suburban Chicago area where he first played hockey at age five. Under his leadership, Glenview has grown into a significant hedge fund, managing approximately $2.6 billion in assets as of March 10, 2026. Robbins is known for a long-term investment strategy, holding stocks for extended periods.
