Early Life and Education
Larry Robbins was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, in 1969. He grew up in a Jewish family. Robbins pursued a dual degree in management and technology at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a B.S. in Economics and a B.S. in Engineering from the Wharton School in 1992. During his time at the University, he captained the hockey team for three years.
Rise to Success
After graduating, Robbins began his career at Gleacher & Company, a mergers and acquisitions advisory firm in New York. He then joined Leon Cooperman at Omega Advisors, where he spent six years as an analyst and partner on their US equity long/short team. Robbins left Omega Advisors in 2000 to found Glenview Capital Management. He is known for holding stocks for extended periods.

Robbins is recognized for his long-term investment strategies and has achieved success in the healthcare sector. One of his notable successes was his investment in hospital companies in 2012, which benefited from the implementation of Obamacare. Glenview Capital Management has been recognized as one of the best-performing large hedge funds. In 2014, Robbins reportedly earned $570 million.
Philanthropy
Robbins is actively involved in philanthropy, especially in education. He serves as chairman of the board for KIPP New York and Relay Graduate School of Education. He is also a board member of The Robin Hood Foundation and Teach For America (New York). Through the Robbins Family Foundation, he supports education reform.
