Early Life and Education
Larry Robbins was born in 1969 in Arlington Heights, Illinois, to a Jewish family. He demonstrated academic excellence early on, graduating with honors from the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. He received a B.S. in economics and a B.S. in engineering. During his time at university, he played hockey and was the captain of the University of Pennsylvania club team for three years. In 1991, he became a Certified Public Accountant in Illinois.
Rise to Success
Robbins's career began at Gleacher & Company, a merger and advisory boutique in New York. After three years, he joined Leon Cooperman at Omega Advisors, where he served as an analyst and partner for six years. In 2000, Robbins founded Glenview Capital Management. The hedge fund has been successful, and Robbins is known for his long-term investment strategy, holding stocks for years and not employing stop-losses.
