Early Life and Education
Joel Kenneth Greenberg was born in 1957 or 1958. He earned a bachelor's degree from Binghamton University, where he met his fellow billionaire co-founder, Jeff Yass. Later, he earned a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School.
Rise to Success
In 1987, Greenberg co-founded Susquehanna International Group (SIG) and served as its chief operating officer. Susquehanna is one of Wall Street's largest and most successful trading firms. Greenberg retired from the company in 2016 and owns about 3% of Susquehanna. Susquehanna has invested in hundreds of private companies globally, including TikTok parent ByteDance.
Key Business Strategies
Susquehanna's main operations include trading and market making, private equity and venture capital. The firm experienced a major downturn during the 2008 financial crisis but rebounded quickly, benefiting from the federal government's bailout of the financial system.
Philanthropy
Greenberg and his wife, Marcy Gringlas, are involved in philanthropy through their Seed the Dream Foundation. They have donated over $2 million to the USC Shoah Foundation. The Seed the Dream Foundation has a long history of working to broker change on pressing issues in both Israel and the United States.
