Early Life
Joseph "Jay" Paul was born in Rhode Island in either 1947 or 1948. He obtained a bachelor's degree from Boston University. In the 1970s, he relocated to Southern California to assist his father with a struggling savings-and-loan business.
Rise to Success
In 1975, Jay Paul founded the Jay Paul Company, a privately held real estate development firm based in San Francisco. The company initially invested in purchasing office spaces. Jay Paul Company has since become a major player in Silicon Valley, leasing 11 million square feet of office space to leading tech firms, including Hewlett-Packard, Amazon, and Apple. The company has plans to add an additional 6 million square feet of office space, mainly in Sunnyvale, California. A key achievement was the approval of a redevelopment project in downtown San Jose on June 16, 2020.
