Yu Renrong was born in Ningbo, China, in 1966. From a young age, he excelled in his studies. He graduated from Tsinghua University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
Rise to Success
Yu Renrong's entrepreneurial journey began in 1998 when he founded Beijing Huaqing Xingchang Science and Trade Co., Ltd., after leaving his job. He identified the potential in the rising domestic mobile phone market, which proved to be a successful venture. In 2007, he founded Will Semiconductor (later OmniVision Integrated Circuits Group), extending his career into semiconductor design. The company, specializing in image sensor chips, quickly became a key supplier for smartphones and electric vehicles.
A critical moment was the 2019 acquisition of OmniVision Technologies, a U.S.-based competitor, for $2.2 billion, which made Will Semiconductor one of the world's largest image sensor chip manufacturers.
