Anthony Aouni Tamer was born on October 12, 1957, in the United States. He is of Lebanese descent. Tamer's educational journey is marked by prestigious institutions. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School, a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University.

Tamer's professional career began at Hewlett-Packard and Sprint Corporation, where he held various engineering, marketing, and manufacturing positions. In 1986, he joined Bain & Company, eventually becoming a partner. At Bain, he developed business unit strategies and led acquisition activities for Fortune 500 clients until 1993. In 1993, Tamer co-founded H.I.G. Capital with Sami Mnaymneh. Under his leadership, H.I.G. Capital has grown into a global private equity firm managing approximately $70 billion of equity capital.
