Steve Huffman was born on November 12, 1983, and grew up in Warrenton, Virginia. At age 8, he started programming computers. He graduated from Wakefield School in 2001 and earned a computer science degree from the University of Virginia (UVA) in 2005.

In his senior year at UVA, Huffman and his roommate Alexis Ohanian developed the idea that became Reddit.
