Lomakin's entrepreneurial journey began in 1998 when he co-founded the Kopeika supermarket chain alongside Artem Khachatryan and Alexander Samonov. The Kopeika chain was an early success in Russia's discount retail sector. In 2007, Lomakin and Khachatryan sold their stake in Kopeika for $220 million.
