Early Life and Education
Sanjeev Bikhchandani was born in New Delhi, India, on June 29, 1963. He attended St. Columba's School and completed his schooling in 1981. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, in 1984. He then pursued an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad), graduating in 1989.
Rise to Success
Bikhchandani's professional journey began in marketing, working on the Horlicks brand at Hindustan Milkfood Manufacturers. However, he left his job in 1990 to pursue entrepreneurship. In 1995, he founded Info Edge (India) Ltd. with a seed capital of ₹2,000. In 1997, Info Edge launched Naukri.com, which became India's first major online recruitment platform.
Key Business Strategies
Under Bikhchandani's leadership, Info Edge expanded its portfolio by launching other classified sites like 99acres.com (real estate), Jeevansathi.com (matrimonial), and Shiksha.com (education). He invested in startups, including Zomato and Policybazaar. His success is also attributed to a disciplined approach to finance and a focus on building profitable sales teams.
Philanthropy
Sanjeev Bikhchandani is deeply involved in philanthropy. He is a co-founder of Ashoka University. He also supports non-profit organizations like Chintan and contributes to preservation efforts through The 1947 Partition Archive.
