Sami Mnaymneh was born in the United States and holds American citizenship. He graduated Summa Cum Laude as valedictorian from Columbia College in 1981, earning a B.A. in Economics. He furthered his education by receiving a J.D. degree and an M.B.A. degree, with honors, from Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, respectively.

Mnaymneh's career began with key positions at The Blackstone Group and Morgan Stanley. He was a managing director at The Blackstone Group and a Vice President in the Mergers and Acquisitions department at Morgan Stanley & Co., where he focused on leveraged buyouts. In 1993, Mnaymneh co-founded H.I.G. Capital with Tony Tamer. Under their leadership, H.I.G. Capital has grown into a global private equity firm managing over $58 billion. Mnaymneh has led over 75 transactions in various industries throughout his career.
