Early Life
R.G. Chandramogan was born on March 1, 1949, in Thiruthangal, Tamil Nadu, India. He came from a modest background, and his family faced financial challenges. Chandramogan's father ran a provision store. Due to family circumstances, Chandramogan discontinued his education after failing a math exam and decided to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations.
Rise to Success
At 21, Chandramogan started his business journey. He started by selling ice cream on pushcarts under the brand name Arun Ice Creams. He established a small ice candy production unit in a rented space in Chennai with just a few employees. Despite early challenges, his business saw a turnaround, achieving a turnover of Rs 1.5 lakh in the first year.
In 1986, he renamed his company to Hatsun Agro Product Ltd. Over the years, Chandramogan expanded the business. He focused on building a strong supply chain. He introduced direct bank payments to farmers for milk procurement, ensuring transparency and timely compensation.
Key Business Strategies
Chandramogan's success is rooted in several key strategies. He focused on innovation. Hatsun Agro Product Ltd has several brands like Arun Ice Creams, Arokya Milk, and Hatsun Curd, which are leaders in their respective segments. The company's ability to procure milk directly from over 450,000 farmers across 12,000 villages daily showcases his efficient supply chain management. His focus on rural markets gave his brand a significant advantage.
Philanthropy
Chandramogan has contributed to society. He established bank direct payment to more than 4 lakh farmers for their supply of milk. He promoted a badminton center of excellence and a chess academy in Tiruthangal.
