Peter Grogg was born in Switzerland. From a young age, he displayed an inherent curiosity about the natural world which guided his academic pursuits. This curiosity led him to study chemistry at a Swiss university, providing a solid foundation for his future endeavors.
Rise to Success
In 1971, Grogg founded Bachem Feinchemikalien AG with just two employees in Liestal, Switzerland, with a focus on peptide synthesis. Grogg's vision was to address the growing demand for peptides, which were becoming increasingly important in medical research and pharmaceutical development. Bachem quickly earned a reputation as a reliable supplier of peptides for research and pharmaceutical applications. In 1998, Grogg brought Bachem to the Swiss Stock Exchange. He served as CEO until 2002 and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bachem Holding AG until 2012.
Key Business Strategies
Grogg's leadership was characterized by a forward-thinking approach and willingness to take risks. He reinvested profits into research and development, enabling Bachem to stay ahead of competitors and expand its capabilities. Grogg expanded the company into non-European markets, establishing Bachem Bioscience, Inc. in Philadelphia, USA, in 1987. Bachem acquired the second-largest manufacturer of peptides, Bachem California, in Torrance, USA, in 1996.
