Early Life
Glenn Russell Dubin was born on April 13, 1957, in Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York. His father was a taxi driver and his mother was a hospital administrator. Dubin attended public schools and graduated from Stony Brook University in 1978 with a degree in economics.
Rise to Success
Dubin began his career as a retail stockbroker at E. F. Hutton & Co. in 1978. In 1984, he co-founded Dubin & Swieca Capital Management, later renamed Corbin Capital Partners. In 1992, Dubin co-founded Highbridge Capital Management with Henry Swieca. Highbridge became one of the most successful hedge funds, and Dubin sold a majority stake to J.P. Morgan in 2004 for $1.3 billion. Dubin then founded Engineers Gate, a quantitative trading company, in 2013. He is also the lead shareholder of Castleton Commodities International.
Key Business Strategies
Dubin's success can be attributed to his pioneering of the multi-strategy hedge fund model and his ability to identify profitable trends. He has also focused on creating a "barbell strategy" in his investments, with conservative investments on one side and more aggressive, volatile investments on the other.
Philanthropy
Dubin is a co-founder of the Robin Hood Foundation, which combats poverty in New York City. He and his wife, Dr. Eva Andersson-Dubin, established the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai, a leading institution for breast cancer research and clinical care. They have also signed The Giving Pledge, committing to donate at least 50% of their wealth to charity.
