Eddy Kusnadi Sariaatmadja was born in Jakarta on August 23, 1953. He is of Sundanese and Palembang-Malay descent. Sariaatmadja pursued his higher education in Australia, earning a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's in Engineering Science from the University of New South Wales.

Sariaatmadja's business journey began in 1983 when he founded PT Elang Mahkota Komputer, initially a distributor of Compaq computers in Indonesia. The company later evolved into PT Elang Mahkota Teknologi (Emtek) in 1997. Emtek expanded significantly through strategic acquisitions and partnerships, controlling major television channels like SCTV, Indosiar, and Moji.
