Early Life
Denis Nikolaevich Shtengelov was born on May 14, 1972, in the village of Gubino, Tomsk Oblast, Russia. He graduated from Tomsk State University in 1994 with a degree in economics. His entrepreneurial journey began shortly after, during the post-Soviet era.
Rise to Success
Shtengelov's initial venture involved small wholesale trade in raw sunflower seeds. He capitalized on the demand for snacks by supplying babushkas, who then roasted and sold them. In 1997, Shtengelov acquired a confectionery factory in Yashkino, Kemerovo region. Over the years, he expanded KDV Group, acquiring various companies and brands. His strategy focused on affordable, high-quality products and a robust distribution network. During the Russian recession, Shtengelov used it to expand his business. KDV provided retailers with well priced products that delivered a good sales margin and sold well.
Key Business Strategies
Shtengelov's key business strategy involved producing a wide range of affordable snacks. He built a large distribution network across Russia. KDV Group focused on buying businesses throughout the supply chain from dairy farms to chocolate factories. KDV became the second largest snackseller in Russia in 2016.
Philanthropy
While specific amounts are not readily available, Shtengelov invested $20 million to set up KDV Sport's golf and tennis academy on Australia's Gold Coast.
