Dario Amodei was born in San Francisco, California, in 1983. He was raised in San Francisco. His father was an Italian-American leather craftsman, and his mother worked as a project manager for libraries. Amodei attended Lowell High School and later pursued higher education at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) before transferring to Stanford University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 2006. He furthered his academic journey at Princeton University, earning a PhD in biophysics in 2011.
