Bruce Flatt was born on June 10, 1965, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His father was an executive at a mutual fund company, which exposed him to the world of finance from a young age. Flatt's career began as a chartered accountant at Clarkson Gordon, which later became part of Ernst & Young. In 1990, he joined the investment division of Brascan, the predecessor to Brookfield Asset Management. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the chief executive of Brookfield Properties in 2000 and CEO of Brookfield Asset Management in 2002. Under his leadership, Brookfield has grown into a global alternative asset manager with over $1 trillion in assets under management and a presence in over 30 countries.
