Ajay Gopikisan Piramal was born on August 3, 1955, in Rajasthan, India. Piramal holds a bachelor's degree in Science from Jai Hind College and Basantsingh Institute of Science, University of Mumbai, and a master's degree in management studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, University of Mumbai. Ajay Piramal's career took a significant turn in 1988 when he acquired Nicholas Laboratories, an Australian multinational corporation. In 2010, he sold the domestic formulations business to Abbott Labs for $3.72 billion, a major deal in the Indian healthcare sector.
